Marcolino Moco, Francisco Viana and Eduardo Paim at a congress to “Think Angola”

Former Prime Minister Marcolino Moço, the president of the Business Confederation of Angola (CEA), Francisco Viana, academics and musician Eduardo Paim defend a “consensus project” for the country and will organize, in May, a congress to “ Think Angola”.

:

"We need a national consensus project. We cannot and must not arrive at election day without knowing what our proposals are for a better Angola. 2022 to 2027", indicates a statement from the organizing committee, made up of Marcolino Moco, Francisco Viana, responsible for CEA and the Luanda Business Association, sociologist Paulo Inglês, academic Paulo Faria and Eduardo Paim.

The "Congress of the Nation. Think Angola", which takes place between the 27th and 28th of May, was presented in Viana this Friday.

"We need to define very well what State, social and economic model we want for Angola, we want for ourselves and for the next generations", say the promoters of the congress, appealing to Angolans not to face the next general elections, scheduled for August, like a choice of flags or a football club.

"What is at stake is much more than that, as our choice will determine our future, our quality of life and our happiness," the statement said.

The organizing committee points out the "moments of great uncertainty, instability and serious economic and social crisis" that Angola is going through after 46 years of independence and says that the elections are also an opportunity to improve the country's conditions.

"In this year of 2022, the Angolan people have a great opportunity to, through their vote, choose a leadership capable of elevating Angola to a better economic and social condition, also raising our levels of happiness", he suggests, appealing to a project national consensus to make this dream a reality.

"A great responsibility falls on our generation: all Angolans, regardless of their party affiliation, age, religious creed and social condition, have the right and the duty to express their views on our common project", say the organizers, appealing to the participation of political, government and opposition parties, civil society organizations, citizens and religious institutions in a "Nation Pact".

Contribute to a common project in favor of a more inclusive, solidary and democratic Angola; for a better clarification, pre-election, on the proposals of the political forces competing for governance for the 2022 to 2027 mandate; and for the creation of an environment of peace and concord, pre and post electoral and for a transparent, fair and peaceful electoral process, are the objectives of the congress.

The initiative will bring together representatives of Angolan communities, across the country and the diaspora, political parties, activists, civil society, religious institutions, specialists, traditional authorities, among other partners.

The National Congress will take place at the Casa Viana Congress Centre, in Viana.
