Portuguese Secretary of State makes a “very positive” assessment of the visit to Angola

The Portuguese Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation this Tuesday made a “very positive” assessment of the visit he made to Angola, a country whose relations with Portugal he described as “excellent at the moment”.

Francisco André, who ended a visit to Angola that began on Friday, highlighted among the three essential objectives of his visit to the country the strengthening of bilateral relations, which is "very strong, intense, affective and that has to be cherished and nourished permanently".

According to the Portuguese official, during his stay, topics on the bilateral agenda in the most diverse areas were also reviewed and the "Blue Talk" conference was held, in preparation for the United Nations Ocean Conference, to be held in Lisbon, on 27 June.

The Portuguese official stressed that he also had the opportunity to visit some projects, including the emblematic one of Portuguese and European cooperation, called Strengthening Resilience and Food and Nutrition Security (Fresan), which is being implemented in three provinces.

"The balance on any of these three themes is quite positive. With regard to the Fresan project, which aims to train and strengthen resilience and food security capacity in the face of the needs that some populations face in Angola, it was a very positive visit, where we were able to perceive the notorious results, quite visible, that this project has already achieved", he said.

The Secretary of State underlined that under Fresan, around 10,000 farmers had already been trained in new techniques for subsistence and agricultural production, as well as modernized some forms of agriculture, namely the seed production system.

"And it has also had a great role in the field of agriculture, from the field of food production for agriculture and livestock as well as agricultural food security, just notice, as an example, that they have already been vaccinated throughout this project. more than 1.6 million animals", he highlighted.

Francisco André reiterated Portugal's willingness to welcome business opportunities identified by the Angolan authorities, as well as to train its economic agents to be able to participate in the "great goal of Angola, which is the diversification of its economy".

In this sense, the Minister of Economy and Sea of ​​Portugal will travel to Angola, in June, to respond to this objective of the Angolan Government.

"Angola launched the great challenge for its economic agents, but also for the outside, on economic diversification and it is very important that Portugal and Angola collaborate on this, that they manage to cooperate, that our economic agents can also support this response as far as possible. to the need for economic diversification", he stressed.

During his visit, Francisco André met with the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, Manuel Nunes Júnior, Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João, with the head of diplomacy, Téte António, to review the topics on the bilateral agenda. and multilateral.

"The balance sheet is extensive, but it is very positive, which shows the excellent state of relations between Portugal and Angola at the moment", he observed.
