Angola works on frequency reorganization to ensure 5G technology

The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media said Friday that the country is already working on 'refarming' frequencies to ensure 5G technology and operators have already expressed interest in joining.

Manuel Homem, who was speaking after a visit to Huawei's future technology park in Luanda, said that Angola is making its way in the implementation of the new technology and that companies will make the necessary investments in this direction.

"Operators have already expressed interest and need in the deployment" of 5G, he stressed.

The Angolan regulator is already doing the 'refarming' of the frequencies "to allow the necessary technical conditions to assign the frequencies so that operators can ensure the 5G technology in the country."

The minister said that Huawei is building one of Africa's main technology centers, which will also allow it to have national competencies in this field, an investment he considered "strategic."

"This center will have competencies for training in different technologies that the market at this time demands, one of them is 5G technology and a park is being built that will allow training and technological infrastructures capable of ensuring the implementation of this technology in the country," he stressed.

The Huawei technology park which has an investment of 60 million dollars should have been completed in December this year, but the covid-19 pandemic delayed the process which is now expected to be completed in May 2022.
