Covid-19: Africa with 276 more deaths and 10,916 infected in the last 24 hours

Africa recorded an additional 276 deaths associated with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 129,345, and 10,916 infected, according to the latest official data.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of cases on the continent is 4,788,216 and the number of recoveries is 4,335,780, plus 8706 in the last 24 hours.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 2,054,693 cases and 64,265 deaths associated with the covid-19 disease.

In the region is the country most affected by the covid-19 on the continent, South Africa, which accounts for 1,645,555 cases and 56,077 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected region on the continent, with 1,445,757 infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and 43,571 deaths associated with the infection.

East Africa accounts for 643,883 infections and 12,518 deaths, and the West African region records 471,509 cases of infection and 6,215 deaths.

The Central African region has the least number of infections and deaths, 172,374 and 2776 respectively.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 14,850 deaths and 257,275 infected, followed by Tunisia, with 12,398 deaths and 338,853 cases, and Morocco, which counts a higher number of infections in these two countries, 517,808 cases, but fewer deaths, 9131 deaths associated with the disease.

Among the countries most affected are Ethiopia, with 4108 fatalities and 270,180 infections, and Algeria, with 3571 deaths and 127,646 infected.

In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 834 deaths and 70,651 cases, followed by Angola (742 deaths and 33,338 cases of infection), Cape Verde (259 deaths and 29,763 cases), Equatorial Guinea (113 deaths and 8476 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (68 dead and 3753 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (37 dead and 2336 cases).
