Covid-19: Africa with 351 more deaths and 8884 infected in the last 24 hours

Africa recorded an additional 351 deaths associated with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, accounting for 129,069 deaths since the pandemic began, and 8884 infected, according to the latest official data.

According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the total number of cases in the region is 4,777,300 and the number of recoveries is 4,327,074, plus 10,744 in the last 24 hours.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 2,049,156 cases and 64,142 deaths associated with covid-19 disease.

In this region, only South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, accounts for 1,640,932 cases and 55,976 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area, with 1,442,357 infected and 43,461 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 642,701 infections and 12,484 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 470,916 and that of deaths is 6208.

In Central Africa, the number of infections is 172,170 and there are 2774 registered deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 14,807 deaths and 256,124 infected, followed by Tunisia, with 12,342 deaths and 337,529 cases, and Morocco, which accounts for 517,423 cases of infection and 9,129 deaths.

Among the countries most affected are Ethiopia, with 4093 fatalities and 269,782 infections, and Algeria, with 3564 deaths and 127,361 infected.

In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 833 deaths and 70,636 cases, followed by Angola (735 deaths and 32,933 cases of infection), Cape Verde (255 deaths and 29,549 cases), Equatorial Guinea (113 deaths and 8476 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (68 dead and 3753 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (37 dead and 2336 cases).
