Sonangol signs agreement with South Korean company to build two oil tankers

In order to reinforce its fleet, Sonangol has entered into an agreement with Hyunday Samho Heavy Industry, a South Korean company, for the construction of two large tankers.

:

According to the oil company's newspaper 'Pacaça', cited by Angop, the two new ships will be delivered to Sonangol in 2023, with the first tanker expected to arrive in the country in the first half of that year (between January and June 2023).

The oil company justifies the purchase of these two ships with the renewal of its fleet. The Sonangol newspaper said that the purchase came from the need for the oil company to replace some ships that have reached the end of their useful life.

Thus, these two vessels will strengthen Sonangol's fleet of oil tankers, which currently has nine ships.

This acquisition, subsidized with own means given the self-sufficiency of the business, will allow Sonangol to ensure the maintenance of the shipping business, with safety and quality, without having to resort to third parties.

With a gross tonnage of 158,000 MT, the two new vessels will be able to transport about one million barrels of oil. These tankers will be of the Suezmax line, which has a life span of 20 years and is so called because they can circulate in the Suez Canal.
