Foreign investment earns over 220 million and creates 1500 jobs

A total of 1531 direct jobs were created in the sectors of industry, commerce, agriculture, services, fisheries and civil construction, with the implementation of 25 projects last year, through foreign direct investment, in the total amount of 220.8 million dollars.

The Agency for Private Investment and Export Promotion (AIPEX) announced that these projects belong to investors from 15 countries, of which the United Arab Emirates stand out, with an investment of 153.3 million in four projects, followed by the China with an equal number of projects, valued at 44.1 million dollars.

According to a government statement to which VerAngola had access, Portugal invested in five projects worth US $ 878 thousand, while Malaysia invested 300 thousand in two projects.

Also in 2020, Austria invested 567,000, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom 500,000, Mauritius 102,000, Denmark 25,000, Kenya and Spain 20,000, in a project each.

The commerce and industry sectors, together, accounted for 77.6 percent of the total jobs generated with the implementation of the 25 projects in 2020. The most significant foreign direct investment went to the service sector, with an application of 158 million, industry with 48 million and the trade sector with 14.4 million.

Projects registered in 2020 valued at 3.4 billion dollars

AIPEX registered 345 projects in 2020, including the 25 already implemented, with a total value of 3.4 billion, foreseeing the creation of 6918 direct jobs, of which 2354 in Luanda, 1893 in Bengo and 1059 in Benguela.

Of the 345 projects registered last year, 128 are by national entrepreneurs, 49 with foreign partnerships and 168 belonging to foreign investors from 40 countries.

Regarding the volume of global investment, in the amount of 3.4 billion, 41 percent (1.4 billion) belong to nationals and foreign residents, 38 percent  1.3 billion) are foreign investors, and 22 percent (753 million) are registered as mixed investment.
