Little artists from Escolinha Criar e Crescer exhibit works at Camões

Because you don't have to be ‘big’ to be a great artist, Camões will host an exhibition with works by 17 children and their respective mentors until the 1st of June. This is a solidary show, whose sales revert to support Escolinha Criar e Crescer. VerAngola spoke to Sílvia Tuta, director of Communication and Image of the association to learn more about the project.

Working with more than 50 children, the association aims to "help with academic, cultural, artistic and social training", supporting their integration into society, eliminating some limitations imposed by the families themselves, explains the official. Most of the 'kandengues' are from the urban district of Maianga, more specifically from Cassenda and Prenda, being in the association on a partial basis.

In this walk of support and learning with the youngest, the caregivers realized that many children have talents that they will be able to develop if properly supported. Thus, the association works together with several Angolan plastic artists, leading students in this direction.

Thus, and from this Thursday until the 1st of June - known as World Children's Day - the Portuguese Cultural Center in Luanda hosts an exhibition that gives visibility to the talent of these small artists still unknown.

A set of artistic works by 17 children and their mentors, 13 Angolan artists, are exhibited, resulting in a total of 37 works. "The Future of Tomorrow Begins Today" is the central theme of the show.

Names such as Patrício Mawete (curator), Benigno Mangovo, Kingica, Kisha, Jardel Selele, Nkosi, Pemba, Sérgio, Wolofe have been associated with Escolinha Crie e Crescer in this project, among others. During one year, the artists guided more than two dozen children and young people towards the artistic production of works, developing skills in the artistic and cognitive domain and aesthetic sensibility for the arts.

Despite everything, the school calls for more support, not necessarily financial but of other types, "such as access to social media, educational materials for children, children's books, etc.", explains the official.

Dedicated to various areas such as music, dance, theater, poetry or plastic arts, Escolinha Criar e Crescer is involved in several projects, one of the next initiatives being "Solentrando Maianga", a spelling bee that brings together public education institutions and private and awaiting the easing of restrictions from the covid-19 pandemic to happen.
