Government reschedules deadline for Port of Luanda concession

The Government has again postponed the deadline, to the end of June, to submit bids to the public tender for the concession of the Multipurpose Terminal of the Port of Luanda, due to the state of disaster due to the covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement, the Executive informed that the date for the submission of proposals was extended to 30 June 2020 at 17h00.

"Due to the state of calamity declared by the Angolan government, due to the covid-19 pandemic, which led to the closure of the Angolan borders, the Commission for Evaluation of Concessions, responsible for the Public Bid for the concession of the Multiuse Terminal of the Port of Luanda, decided to extend the date of presentation of the bids," the statement said.

The concession of the Multiuse Terminal of the Port of Luanda may allow a "significant fit for the State", as acknowledged in April by the Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu.

The deadline for submitting bids to the public tender for the concession of the Multipurpose Terminal of the Port of Luanda, which had a deadline of 30 March, was extended to 29 May due to the state of emergency imposed to contain the spread of the covid-19 pandemic in the country and now to 30 June.

The Multipurpose Terminal at the Port of Luanda is a port infrastructure dedicated to the simultaneous operation of general cargo and containers, it has a 610-meter quay, a depth of 12.5 meters and an area of 181 thousand square meters with capacity to handle 2.6 million tons per year.

The Multipurpose Terminal will be under private management for a period of 20 to 25 years.
