In a press statement, quoted at Angop, the provincial director of Health in Benguela, Manuel Cabinda, regretted what had happened and explained that Óscar Braga arrived at the hospital already in an extremely delicate situation.

"For some time he was followed in our hospital units, because he had his comorbidities. Unfortunately, today [Tuesday] he arrived at our emergency services already in cardiac arrest", he explained.

The provincial governor of Benguela, Rui Falcão, lamented the death of Óscar Braga, considering him a man of belief.

"I was the national head of the Boy Scouts for many years and he was my principal adviser. Besides everything, he was our bishop, our reference, so it's a tremendous pain", said the governor, highlighting among Óscar Braga's main teachings honesty, humility, weakness, faith in a future and a better country.

Óscar Lino Lopes Fernandes Braga was born in Malanje, on 30 September 1931. He entered the seminary already with higher education and was ordained priest in 1964, ten years later, in Malanje.

In 1975 he took over the diocese of Benguela until 2008, when he was replaced by Eugénio Dal Corso.

Óscar Braga ordained over 300 priests. In his 33 years of episcopal mission, three bishops left the diocese of Benguela: José Nambi, Mário Lukundi and Emílio Sumbelelo.
