Government buys property to treat epidemics for 25 million

The Government will acquire a property with 200 residences, in Calumbo, with the objective of creating conditions for the specialized treatment of epidemics and pandemics, in an investment of approximately 25 million dollars.

According to the presidential order, published on Monday, the decision aims to fill the “insufficient adequate infrastructure, at national level, to respond to serious public health calamities and pandemics, of unpredictable occurrence”.

The diploma justifies the acquisition of the property in question with the need to create conditions for the specialized and appropriate treatment of epidemics and pandemics, increase the capacity for diagnosis and specific treatment, temporary isolation, as well as monitoring and treatment of patients.

An official source contacted by Lusa said that the project is already built, with access to the site being completed, so the new center should start operating "soon".

The order authorizing the expense and simplified contracting procedure to acquire the property attributes the responsibility of the process to the Minister of Finance.

Also in that commune in the municipality of Viana, in Luanda, are located the two Calumbo I and II centers that the Ministry of Health has used for institutional quarantine as a way of preventing contagion by covid-19.
