Angola with two new cases of local transmission of covid-19 increases to 73 in total

The country has two new infections by the new coronavirus, bringing to 73 the number of cases, announced this Wednesday the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda.

According to the official, these are two Angolan citizens, one 10 years old, living in the Futungo de Belas neighborhood, under a sanitary fence, and another 37 years old, from Hoji-Ya-Henda, also under a sanitary fence, both in the province from Luanda.

The two patients are in treatment centers.

Angola thus has 73 infected, four deaths, 18 recovered and 51 active cases, "of which one requires attention". Among these, 45 are cases of local transmission.

In Africa, there are 3,589 confirmed deaths in more than 119,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the latest statistics on the continent's pandemic.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Guinea-Bissau leads in number of infections (1195 cases and seven dead), followed by Equatorial Guinea (1043 cases and 12 dead), Cape Verde (390 cases and four deaths), São Tomé and Príncipe (441 cases and 12 deaths), Mozambique (227 cases and one dead) and Angola (73 infected and four dead).

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 350,000 deaths and infected more than 5.6 million people in 196 countries and territories.

About 2.2 million patients were considered cured.

The disease is spread by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
