At the moment, the clinic is surrounded and all professionals who came into contact with the man have been placed in institutional quarantine, assured the ruler.
The man lived in Portugal, but in February decided to travel to Angola to visit his family. When he travelled, no cases of covid-19 had yet been identified in Portugal. Without any apparent reason to have been contaminated, Silvia Lutucuta explained that the health authorities are trying to understand where the victim might have been infected.
"We are working with the family and all contacts looking for some epidemiological link. Only after this investigation will we be able to say whether it is a case of local contamination or community transmission," she said, quoted by Opaís newspaper.
The head of the health department also spoke about the first nurse infected with the virus in the country. She said the professional is hospitalized and people who had direct contact with the nurse are in quarantine.
Assuring that all health professionals are being tested, the minister revealed that it was in this "dehydrate that our nurse was diagnosed".
Silvia Lutucuta also stressed that all passengers on flights in February and March will be tested and called for the population to comply with the rules and preventive measures recommended by the health authorities.
Finally, she left a guarantee that the country would continue to pay attention and work to combat other equally dangerous diseases such as AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.
