Woman and two daughters aged three and five killed on witchcraft charges

A woman and two of her daughters, aged three and five, were killed in the village of Catoio, Chiunguar municipality, Bié province, accused of witchcraft, the local police said.

According to the director of the institutional communication and press office of the provincial delegation of the Interior of Bié, chief prison inspector José Capingala, the homicides occurred on April 11 and were carried out by two men, 26 and 34 years old. .

José Capingala, quoted by Angop, said that the bodies of the 40-year-old woman and the children were exhumed and buried, Sunday, in the presence of officers from the Criminal Investigation Service and traditional local authorities.

The crime was reported to the authorities by the traditional authorities, after they were alerted by a relative of the victims.

Accusations of witchcraft have been the cause of several homicides in the country, the majority of which are elderly victims, generally responsible for the deaths or illnesses of family members and neighbors.
