Forty-five days of state of emergency with 12,000 arrested and almost 3,000 less crimes

Forty-five days after declaring the first state of emergency due to the covid-19 pandemic, the country recorded almost 3,000 fewer crimes than in the same period last year and more than 12,000 arrests.

The figures were released this Monday by the police spokesman, deputy Commissioner Valdemar José, on the state of play of the defence and security forces on the first day of the third extension of the state of emergency, declared since 27 March.

In the balance of the stages between 27 March and 10 May, there were 2943 crimes, of which 1740 were solved, that is, 59 percent of the crimes committed, "some with significant reduction", he said.

With regard to voluntary homicides, compared to the same period last year, there were 82 fewer crimes, plus 61 fewer sexual assaults, 855 fewer thefts and 1435 fewer thefts, as well as 329 fewer bodily harm.

In this period, and in situations related to violation of the rules of the state of emergency, 12,028 citizens were arrested, of which 3121 for motorcycle taxing, 2539 for overcrowding in collective taxis, 2004 for disobedience or disobedience, 68 for celebrating cults, 37 for violation of health fence, 60 for price speculation, 17 for corruption, 11 for illegal possession of a firearm, five for bodily harm and three for attempts to run over security agents.

In addition, 4161 citizens were arrested for border violation and summarily tried 1375 and the compulsory collection of 16,265 citizens "for being illegally on the public road" was ordered, in addition to 9563 establishments and informal markets that were closed.

The country has so far registered 45 cases of infection by the new coronavirus, with two deaths.
