National Police to place drones to monitor Cabinda's border with DR Congo

The guarantee was given by the commander-general of the National Police himself. Paulo de Almeida said that soon the border inspection to the south of the province of Cabinda will be carried out with the aid of drones and a night lighting system with a range of up to ten kilometers.

The commander is in Cabinda, where he encouraged the personnel of the Border Guard Police to maintain the state of permanent surveillance, taking into account the state of emergency enacted in the country and the measures imposed to prevent the covid-19.

The purpose of Paulo Almeida's visit is to provide support and solidarity to the police force on that border. "We bring some guidelines that aim to improve and reinforce the efficiency of our work at the border. That is why we have come to monitor how the operative directive we are working on to better strengthen and prevent our borders is being implemented," he said, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

The commander of the National Police considered the epidemiological situation in the province of Cabinda "controlled" but was concerned about the community transmission of covid-19 in neighboring countries.

The official asked for a reinforcement in the fight against illegal entry of foreigners in the country through clandestine routes. In this way, and with a view to strengthening security measures at the borders between Cabinda and neighboring countries, he said that a drone surveillance system will soon be implemented on the border between Cabinda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The implementation of a lighting system with a radius of up to ten kilometers on the same border is still being studied.

He recognized, however, the small number of personnel at border posts and the lack of technical means and equipment to combat not only illegal immigration but also the traffic in fuel.
