"The provincial governor of Benguela, Manuel Nunes Júnior, proceeded this Wednesday with the delivery of five ambulances to the National Emergency Institute of Benguela (INEMA), with a view to reinforcing the service to the population", informed the provincial government of Benguela, in a statement to which Verangola had access.

On the occasion, the governor said that "the delivery of these vehicles will be very useful for the health sector and in the lives of the population in general".

Nunes Júnior took the opportunity to appeal for "technically recommended care and maintenance so that these vehicles respond to the issues accessed".

"The governor also said that the Executive is working to ensure that the province does not record any more deaths and is taking all health measures to reduce the number of cholera cases, as life is the most precious asset and is priceless," the note reads.

According to the governor, this reinforcement will make it possible to evacuate cholera patients in a timely manner from their areas to treatment centers, avoiding the loss of lives.

Manuel Cabinda, director of the provincial health office, reported that the Ministry of Health and the national multisectoral commission "have been working in an aligned manner on all issues related to the needs that the province has presented, as a way of cutting the chain of transmission of the disease and ensuring that there are no more deaths".

With these new resources, he said, the number of INEMA ambulances in Benguela increases to 13.

"Manuel Cabinda said that, with this reinforcement, the number of ambulances available to the local INEMA increases to 13, to cover, assist and respond to incidents in the province of Benguela", reads the note.

Cholera continues to sound the Government's alarm bells, with the national cholera control commission holding an emergency meeting earlier this week with the aim of reinforcing control and prevention measures to contain the outbreak of this disease.

Since the beginning of the outbreak, in January of this year, the country has recorded a cumulative number of 13,024 cases and 482 deaths.
