Country with 180 more cases of cholera but no deaths recorded in the last 24 hours

Angola has not recorded any deaths from cholera in the last 24 hours, a period in which 180 new cases were reported, accumulating 383 deaths and 9,965 cases since the beginning of the outbreak, the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday.

According to MINSA, data updated on Monday indicate that the provinces of Benguela and Malanje recorded the highest number of cases, with 55 each, followed by Luanda, the epicenter of the disease, with 40 cases.

In the provinces of Bengo, Icolo and Bengo, Namibe, Malanje and Cuanza Sul, new cases were also reported in the last 24 hours, with 125 people discharged and 388 others remaining hospitalized with cholera.

Since the start of the outbreak, a cumulative total of 9965 cases have been reported, of which 4472 in Luanda, 2647 in Bengo, 873 in Icolo and Bengo, 890 in Cuanza Norte, 580 in Benguela, 273 in Malanje, 65 in Cabinda, 56 in Zaire, 49 in Cuanza Sul, 25 in Huambo, 15 in Uíje, seven in Huíla, seven in Namibe, two in Bié, two in Cubango, one in Cunene and one in Lunda Sul.

Affected individuals range in age from 2 to 100 years, with 5528 (55 percent) being male and 4437 female.

Of the 383 deaths quantified since January, 163 were recorded in Luanda, 105 in Bengo, 40 in Cuanza Norte, 34 in Benguela, 23 in Icolo and Bengo, nine in Malanje, five in Cuanza Sul, three in Zaire and one in Cabinda.
