Since the beginning of the outbreak, on January 7, 8892 cases have been reported: 4252 in Luanda province, 2520 in Bengo, 831 in Icolo and Bengo, 584 in Cuanza Norte, 279 in Benguela, 232 in Malanje, 55 in Cabinda, 53 in Zaire, 36 in Cuanza Sul, 23 in Huambo, 15 in Uíge, seven in Huíla, two in Bié, one in Cunene, one in Cubango and one in Lunda Sul.

Cholera, which is spread across 16 of the 21 provinces, has so far caused 342 deaths, of which almost half (159) were in Luanda province.

According to UNICEF, Angola is, alongside South Sudan, one of the African countries most affected by this disease associated with the lack of sanitation, hygiene and drinking water, in addition to deficient health care.

More than 178,000 cases of cholera were confirmed in 16 countries in eastern and southern Africa between January 2024 and March 2025, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said on Tuesday.

Children under 15 years of age account for 40 percent of reported cases in Angola, says Unicef, which warns of the "high risk" of disease progression.
