According to a statement from the Cuanza Norte government, to which VerAngola had access, the project will be managed and operated by the Chinese company China Tai Senda, which invested around 30 billion dollars to reactivate this perimeter.
"The reactivation of the Mucoso Irrigated Perimeter involved an investment of around 30 billion dollars by the Chinese company, which will allow the generation of more than 2000 direct jobs and the relaunch of large-scale agricultural production, with emphasis on fruits, citrus fruits and, especially, bananas, the region's emblematic product," says the note.
This reactivation, the statement adds, "represents a milestone for the relaunch of modern agriculture in the region, with a focus on the production and processing of agricultural products, goat farming and the promotion of beekeeping."
The reactivation ceremony of the Mucoso Irrigated Perimeter took place at the perimeter's own facilities and was presided over by the Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Isaac dos Anjos, who was accompanied by the provincial governor, João Diogo Gaspar.
At the event, which was also attended by several government, business and diplomatic entities, the Chinese company was represented by its Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA), Su Guang Yong.
Speaking on the occasion, the officer "committed to transforming the Mucoso Perimeter into a true 'postcard' of the province, highlighting the enormous local agricultural potential".
In turn, the Minister of Agriculture highlighted the "historical importance of Mucoso, once a national reference in irrigation and agricultural production", as well as reinforcing "his conviction that this new phase will be crucial for the relaunch of the primary sector and informed that the Luinga Irrigated Perimeter will also be reactivated soon, expanding support for family farming and food security".
João Diogo Gaspar highlighted that the reactivation of this project "represents not only an advance in the modernization of agriculture, but also the materialization of a strategic vision for the socioeconomic development of the province".
Quoted in the statement, he considered that the project will boost employability and agricultural production.
"This project will boost employability, increase agricultural productivity and contribute significantly to our country's food security," he said.
While the Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Angola, Chen Feng, reiterated the "Chinese government's commitment to supporting Angola in the development of key sectors, with emphasis on agriculture".
"Agriculture is one of the fundamental pillars of the strategic partnership between our countries. We will always be available to cooperate, not only in this area, but in other areas of mutual interest," she said, concluding: "Today we plant, tomorrow we harvest."
