The aim of this provision of funds was to accelerate the increase and diversification of the country's production and reduce imports, according to a statement from the provincial government of Malanje, to which VerAngola had access.
"More than 360 billion kwanzas were made available by the Support Programme for Production, Export Diversification and Import Substitution (Prodesi) to producers in Malanje, between 2019 and 2024, with the aim of accelerating the increase and diversification of national production, as well as reducing the import of products", the statement reads.
In statements made this Tuesday, during the ceremony to present the results of the aforementioned programme, the national director considered the diversification of the country's economy to be "vital".
According to Alan Varela, quoted in the statement, "it is vital to diversify the national economy, with a view to guaranteeing the sustainability of the population and thus guaranteeing food security".
On the occasion, he also highlighted the "significant contribution that the province of Malanje has made to increasing agricultural production, through the large-scale cultivation of several essential products, with emphasis on rice".
Franco Mufinda, deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector, expressed satisfaction with the results of Prodesi.
"For his part, the deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector, Franco Mufinda, was satisfied with the results presented and emphasised the role of Prodesi in strengthening the local economy, generating jobs and reducing dependence on imported products", the statement reads.
According to Angop, the more than 360 billion kwanzas were earmarked for 292 projects approved in the province of Malanje by Prodesi.
In national terms, Alan Varela mentioned that, in the period in question, Prodesi disbursed 1.5 billion kwanzas to finance 6301 projects in the country.
