The consideration was made during the opening of the XIV Consultative Council, promoted by the Ministry of Finance, in the province of Benguela.
On the occasion, the governor, quoted in a statement from the provincial government of Benguela to which VerAngola had access, "considered that there are no shortcuts to integrity, nor justifications for practices that put at risk the efforts of thousands of Angolans who fulfill their fiscal duties and trust that their resources will be well applied".
Thus, Vera Daves considered that the council, which began this Tuesday, "must generate solutions".
"Therefore, more than words, this advisory board must generate solutions. I want to hear you, I want to feel you. We need to look within with courage, openness and truth, and leave here convinced of what we need to do to better serve," highlighted the minister.
The governor of Benguela, Manuel Nunes Júnior, "called to intervene to deliver welcome remarks", began by thanking the "choice of the province to host the ministry's national event and wished the participants success during the two days of debates".
"The governor highlighted that achieving sustainable public finances in an environment of strong financial restrictions is a task that requires, in addition to academic and technical knowledge, a strong capacity for resilience, a lot of focus, discipline and, above all, patriotism," the statement said.
Manuel Nunes Júnior also considered that those present have the capacity to "reflect broadly and deeply on the challenges and opportunities facing the country's public finances".
"I usually say that the sum of knowledge and experience equals wisdom. Here are people who have a lot of knowledge and experience and who, therefore, have wisdom in finance, capable of reflecting broadly and deeply on the challenges and opportunities facing the country's public finances," he said.
Furthermore, the provincial governor also took the opportunity to invite participants to visit the tourist attractions in Benguela, "with a special emphasis on the beautiful beaches that the province has".
Taking place under the motto "Processes and Procedures: Improving to Strengthen Confidence in Public Finances", the council will debate, over two days, "matters related to risk management and crisis management, strengthening institutional reputation and confidence in public finance management, as well as the role of processes and procedures in transforming public finance management".
The Finance Ministry's advisory council comes after officials from the General Tax Administration (AGT) were recently detained over their alleged involvement in a fraudulent VAT refund scheme involving the embezzlement of seven billion kwanzas.
On that occasion, the Finance Minister came to apologize to taxpayers and citizens for the illicit practices of public managers, ensuring that those responsible would be held accountable.
