Angola will fight, this Friday, for a place in the final of the African Futsal Championship (CAN 2024), which is taking place in Morocco. The final game will be against Egypt and the national team's main focus is to qualify, for the first time, for the final of the continental competition.

Starting at 5pm, the match will take place at the Salle Prince Moulay Abdellah Pavilion, in the Moroccan capital.

The national team spoke this Thursday about the semi-final, via video call, on the program Grandes Manhãs, on ZAP Viva. On the occasion, national team athlete Paulo de Carvalho said it was "proud to represent the nation in a competition of this magnitude".

"It is a pride to represent the nation in a competition of this magnitude. We have been preparing for this championship for two years. This is a reflection of the work done", he pointed out.

National coach Marco Antunes said that "it has been a difficult journey" because they have come across opponents "who also came well prepared".

"It has been a difficult journey, because we have faced opponents who also came to the championship well prepared. Still, we are Angola and we want to get as far as possible", he said.

It should be noted that past meetings between Angola and Egypt do not have a very positive outcome for Angola. According to Angop, the country was defeated in two games and tied in another: the defeats occurred in 2016 (match was 4-2) and in 2020 (game was 3-0), while the draw was recorded in 2008 (score was 2-2).

Remember that in the group stage of the continental competition, where Angola belonged to group A (also composed of Morocco, Zambia and Ghana), the national team lost. The first game was against hosts Morocco, where they lost 5-2.

In its second game, it faced the Zambia team on the field, which it beat by eight balls to five, while in the third game it beat Ghana 11-3.

Thus, the national team ended this phase in second place in the group, with six points.

According to Angop, at this stage, Chico was the national team's top scorer, scoring six goals, followed by Hélber with four goals and Braúlio with three goals.

Thus, with these results in the initial phase, Angola secured passage to the semi-finals of the competition, for the second time, after having done so in the 2020 edition – also played in Morocco –, in which it came in third place after beating Libya by two balls to zero.

Still this Friday, the other semi-final will be played, at 8 pm, where Morocco and Libya will fight for a place in the final.
