Luanda roads with 14 deaths over the weekend, 11 in a single accident

At least 14 people died and 26 were injured in road accidents in Luanda over the weekend, registering 11 deaths in a single disaster, according to the capital's police.


According to the report from the Luanda Provincial Command of the National Police, the accident with the most fatalities, which occurred on Saturday, near the entrance to the Quiçama National Park, was mainly caused by “excessive speed and lack of concern” during the exercise. of driving.

Jornal de Angola states that the accident was caused by a goods truck, which collided with another truck that was broken down on the side of the road and ran over pedestrians who were waiting for the damage to be repaired.

The accident also caused 16 injuries, six of which were seriously injured.

The ten road accidents recorded over the weekend in Luanda resulted in damage estimated at more than 3 million kwanzas.

In the same period, the police detained 86 motorists for allegedly committing the crimes of driving while drunk and disobedient.

Road accidents are the second cause of death in Angola, after malaria.
