According to information from the consular service of the Brazilian embassy, all tourist visa applications – around 14 thousand passports since March 2023 – have already been processed and returned, which is happening for the first time since the outbreak of the crisis in the annual demand for visas post-pandemic (from five thousand to an average of 25 thousand annually).

From May onwards, after obtaining an appointment and submitting documentation, passports will be returned within 72 hours, with a decision on the visa application (authorization or non-granting).

Brazilian consular services highlight that the demand for visas continues to be "much higher than the daily processing capacity", therefore requiring prior scheduling with the visa center to apply for tourist visas, with the procedures and deadlines for these being different from those for student visas.

Last year, Brazil saw a 760 percent increase in tourism visa applications compared to the pre-Covid period, while the number of student visa applications increased to around 600 applications annually.
