UNITA says MPLA accusations confirm “large-scale theft” in the Government

UNITA considered that the accusations made against the party by the first secretary of the MPLA and governor of the province of Cuanza Sul are the assumption of “large-scale theft” in the MPLA Government.

"These are unfounded statements, without logic, without any strategy, they are statements by someone who has lost direction and has no future", said this Monday the first provincial secretary of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) in Cuanza Sul, also deputy to the National Assembly Armando Caquepa.

For the UNITA politician, the statements by Job Capapinha, first secretary of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) in Cuanza Sul, confirm "systematic theft" from the MPLA and should merit the intervention of the Attorney General's Office (PGR).

The secretary of the MPLA in the province of Cuanza Sul, who is also governor of this province, said, at a party event, that if one day UNITA becomes Government, thefts from the public treasury will be greater than those that the MPLA is fighting, reported this Monday the national press.

Job Capapinha, quoted this Monday by Emissora Católica de Angola, stated that the MPLA "is the people's only hope" and that UNITA "does not have cadres capable of governing Angola".

"And, therefore, I reaffirm, to be clear: if the UNITA party, due to the people's mistake, one day becomes Government in this country, the embezzlement or theft from the treasury will be greater than what the MPLA is fighting", said Job Capapinha.

In reaction, the first secretary of UNITA in that province considered that Job Capapinha's statements confirm that "there has been large-scale theft by the MPLA itself".

"That's why they fear that if UNITA takes over power it could do the same thing that the MPLA does. But, [I want] to make it clear that UNITA is a party with a vocation for power, with its own strategies, UNITA will not do what what the MPLA does", he declared.

Armando Caquepa, also a deputy to the National Assembly, added that his party defends different ideologies in relation to the party in power.
