Kate Forbes, who is on a four-day visit to Angola, was received in audience by João Lourenço, who took the opportunity to express gratitude for the support provided to the Angolan Red Cross.

At the end of the hearing, the person responsible, in statements to the press, said that she also discussed with the President the positive steps that the country has taken and the issue of food insecurity caused by natural disasters, such as drought.

"We have a wonderful country here and we know the work that the local Red Cross has been doing, as well as the challenges it has been facing, we also recognize the role it has played in supporting populations in matters of food insecurity and all other scourges," said Kate Forbes.

The person in charge highlighted the importance of coming to Angola to show solidarity with the local Red Cross, so that she can have the comfort of knowing that the organization is ready to support.

The North American's visit marks the presence of the federation's highest entity in the country for the first time since the creation of the Angolan Red Cross in 1978.

Kate Forbes was elected president of the IFRC, in December 2023, at the Extraordinary General Assembly, held in Geneva, Switzerland, having placed Angola on her agenda of work priorities on the African continent.

Kate Forbes' visit program includes meetings with the ministers of Economy and Planning and Health, as well as the United States ambassador to Angola.
