Rumos Ensemble brings multimedia concert “Tocando José Afonso” to Luanda

The chamber trio “Rumos Ensemble” presents the multimedia concert “Tocando José Afonso” in Luanda, on April 30th, in honor of one of the most important authors of Portuguese popular music.

:

The concert, which has already been performed in countries on four continents, is part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April and will take place at the Pepetela Auditorium, at the Centro Cultural Português – Camões (CCP-Camões) in Luanda.

In 2022, Rumos Ensemble invited musician Carlos Alberto Moniz, José Afonso's stage and life partner, to design the concert "continuing the mission that underpins the genesis of this formation: taking Portugal to the world", according to a press release from CCP-Camões.

At the concert, Carlos Alberto Moniz tells stories, in digital format, about the songs, records, tours and other lesser-known particularities of José Afonso's life, career and work.

The new arrangements of the songs were written by violinist Anne Victorino d'Almeida and pianist João Vasco, who form, with clarinetist Luís Gomes, one of the most international chamber groups in the Portuguese classical music scene, according to the same statement.

The group was formed in 2015 and has performed in Portugal, Germany, France, Namibia, South Africa, the United States, Cuba, Switzerland, Tunisia, Cape Verde, Spain, Denmark, Brazil, China, Greece, Bulgaria and Hungary.
