In a statement, the organizers of the award announced that interested writers and reading agents from Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe can register for the categories of novel, short story, poetry, cover, graphic design and reading incentive for free, on the award website, as well as on the Brasília Award, for authors from this region.

Created by the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the Federal District, in Brazil, the Candango Literary Award has a partnership with the Camões Institute, Casa de Angola and embassies of countries in the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), which expands the international reach of the initiative.

The coordination is by the Casa de Autores Institute (ICA), curated by São Paulo writer João Anzanello Carrascoza.

The winners of the categories best novel, book of short stories and book of poetry will receive 35 thousand reais (5.5 thousand euros). The same amount will be given to the winner of the Brasília Prize category, which is only for authors born or living in the Federal District, where Brasília, the capital of Brazil, is located.

The winners of the categories for best graphic design and best cover will each receive 20,000 reais (3.1 thousand euros).

There is also a prize of 15,000 reais (2.3 thousand euros) for initiatives that encourage reading, which will choose the best reading project.

Registrations must be made on the prize website, by sending PDF files containing an identity document, a copy of the work, mandatory declarations and, in the case of educational projects, a detailed portfolio.

The organizers said that the selection will be conducted by a technical team of 45 literature professionals — 30 in the first stage and 15 in the final stage. The names of the judges will be announced after the awards ceremony.

In return, the winners of the literary and editorial categories must donate 20 copies of the winning works to public libraries in the Federal District.

The winners of the pedagogical area will offer online training of at least four hours.

The winners will be announced at a special event on October 31st, in the Martins Pena Room of the Cláudio Santoro National Theater, in Brasília.
