Occupants leave the fire caused by a car accident in the port of Luanda unharmed

The occupants of a car that crashed, early on Sunday, against the passenger terminal at the port of Luanda, causing a fire in the infrastructure, got out of the vehicle unharmed, according to the provincial government.

"The occupants of the Audi branded car that crashed into the passenger terminal at the Port of Luanda tonight are, fortunately, unharmed. Prudence is called for when driving", can be read in a publication by the Government of the Province of Luanda. Luanda on Facebook.

The publication, made at 1:11 am, is accompanied by images of the incident, in which it is possible to observe the car charred and overturned inside the terminal area, as well as damage caused to the infrastructure, both inside and outside.

Images shared on social media also show the fire inside the passenger terminal at the port of Luanda, next to the catamarans area, as well as requests for assistance.

In a statement, the port of Luanda clarified that the fire broke out in the facilities of the maritime passenger terminal at 9:30 pm on Saturday, "as a result of a light vehicle skidding on Avenida 4 de Fevereiro".

"The fire consumed only an area of 430 square meters, affecting ticketing services, a café/bar, a pantry and sanitary facilities", points out the text, noting that the entire terminal "occupies a total area of 4,158.76 square meters ".

The port of Luanda also assures that "at the moment the situation is under control".

According to a statement from the institutional communication and press office, "the flames started in the accident vehicle and in a short time reached part of the passenger concentration zone of the said terminal", but the team from the National Service of Civil Protection and Firefighters at the port mobilized means and men, "preventing the loss of human lives and essential materials" to the terminal's activity.

"A multidisciplinary team, made up of members of the various specialties of the Ministry of the Interior, the Port of Luanda and Sécil-Marítima, are working from the first hours of the occurrence to assess the causes of the accident, calculate the material damage and determine the measures to be taken for the recovery of the part of the terminal that was affected", says the statement.

As for the occupants of the vehicle, who emerged unharmed from the accident, their situation is "being monitored by specialized bodies assigned to the Ministry of the Interior, after having received the necessary health care".
