President of the Republic defends Russia-NATO and Russia-EU dialogue for peace in Europe

João Lourenço, who was speaking at the opening of the ordinary session of the Central Committee of the MPLA, as president of the party, reiterated that Angola condemns "the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and the occupation and annexation of part of the Ukrainian territory" and defends a "ceasefire unconditional agreement and the start of negotiations between the parties directly involved in the conflict - Russia and Ukraine".

But, underlined the head of state, given the proportions that the conflict has reached, the normalization of relations between the two countries is not enough and it is important to "ensure a lasting peace for Europe as a whole, which necessarily implies that, at some point where appropriate, direct negotiations between Russia and NATO, between Russia and the European Union".

Washington and Beijing, due to the influence they have on each of the countries in conflict, must coordinate "diplomatic actions aimed at resolving this conflict", he also defended, underlining that it is necessary to "save Europe to save the world".

This position was assumed at the end of the speech in which he referred that "the party must follow with due attention the latest events that occur in the world and that foreshadow the return to the Cold War or even the design of a scenario worse than that of World War II, with alignments formed by two antagonistic axes".

Earlier, the leader of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) launched the theme "Impact of Public Policies on the life of Youth" for debate at the Central Committee meeting and made a summary of his Government's policies with special attention to "specific fringes of society such as young people, women, children, the elderly and people with disabilities".

João Lourenço said that the decision, at the last party congress, to expand the composition of the Central Committee was taken with the aim of valuing youth, carrying out a "generational renewal".

Before declaring the IV ordinary session of the MPLA Central Committee open, the President listed the dozens of infrastructure projects, from airports to refineries, universities and hospitals, many of which he promised will be inaugurated this year.

A "portfolio of important structuring projects that will have a great impact on the economic and social development of the country and that will contribute to an increase in the supply of jobs", he underlined.

The MPLA leader also asked that the party's work not be limited to committee meetings and participation in large mass events, but that it work "with civil society" and its representative organisations.
