According to the embassy, Demeke Mekonnen Hassen also praised the role of the President, João Lourenço, in those two processes "as a Champion for Peace and Reconciliation at a continental level".

The Ethiopian official assessed Angola's role during the audience with the Angolan ambassador Francisco José da Cruz, who is leaving his post in Addis Abeba and is due to travel to New York where he will assume the position of permanent representative to the United Nations.

Demeke Hassen analyzed with Francisco José da Cruz "priority issues on the bilateral agenda, highlighting the need to review existing agreements in the areas of air services and trade and the signing of three new legal instruments", the statement notes.

"This is the general cooperation agreement in the economic, technical-scientific and cultural domains between the two countries, the memorandum of understanding for the establishment of political consultation mechanisms between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Angola and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, as well as the visa waiver agreement on diplomatic and service passports", it is detailed.

The statement also discloses that Ambassador Francisco José da Cruz said goodbye recently to the president of the African Union Commission (AU, based in Addis Abeba), Moussa Faki Mahamat, whom he "vehemently" defended the "reversal of the weak insertion of Angolan staff in the organization's structures, noting that it corresponds to only 5 percent of its quota and requested the assistance of the African Union Commission for this.

On the occasion, Faki Mahamat saluted Angola for "giving due priority to African issues, with concrete engagement actions at the AU level and for taking the decision to deploy troops in the DR Congo to support the process of cantonment of the M23 rebel forces" .
