Storm in Luanda affects power supply in seven municipalities

Torrential rains, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, hit Luanda tonight and forced the interruption of power supply in several municipalities in the capital, according to a statement from the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE).

The storm caused the flooding of electrical installations, the fall of poles and lines and other occurrences, depriving several neighborhoods of the municipalities of Viana, Talatona, Kilamba Kiaxi, Luanda, Cacuaco, Belas and Icolo and Bengo from their power supply.

ENDE reported that "it has mobilized all available means and is working to restore the affected areas as quickly as possible".

Since last week, the rains have caused the death of at least nine people in Luanda province, in addition to the fall of trees and electricity poles. Thousands of homes were flooded and streets were impassable in many places.

According to the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (Inamet), cited by Jornal de Angola, forecasts until 6 pm this Thursday are for light or moderate rain in the northern region, with a probability of thunderstorms in some municipalities in the provinces. of Uíge, Malanje and Cuanza Norte and light or moderate rain, with probability of isolated thunderstorms in some municipalities in the provinces of Luanda, Cuanza Sul, Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul.

In the central region, the forecast is for light or moderate rain, with the probability of isolated thunderstorms in some municipalities in the provinces of Benguela and Huambo, with partly cloudy skies in the provinces of Bié and Moxico.

In the southern region, light or moderate rain is expected, with the probability of isolated thunderstorms in some municipalities in the provinces of Huíla, Cunene and Namibe, with partly cloudy skies in the province of Cuando Cubango.
