Country wants to reap Namibia's experience in the field of offshore diamond exploration

The country intends to reap Namibia's experience in the field of offshore diamond research and exploration, informed Diamantino Azevedo, Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas.

"With the regulation of the legislation, Angola can look at the possibility of researching and exploring diamonds at sea," said Diamantino Azevedo, quoted in a statement from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, which VerAngola had access to.

According to the minister, the sea is a repository of various mineral resources, "among them diamonds", which is why the country intends to gather Namibia's experience in the field of research and exploitation of the referred resource.

In addition to offshore diamonds, according to Angop, the country also wants to exchange experiences with Namibia with regard to uranium exploration.

Diamantino Azevedo is on a visit to Namibia, having arrived in Windhoek on Wednesday (April 5th). According to a statement from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, the minister was received by the Angolan ambassador, Juvelina Imperial, and by the executive secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Namibia, Bryan Eiseb.

After his arrival, the holder of the Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas portfolio paid a visit to the diamond company Namibia Desert Diamonds, "which provided Endiama and Sodiam with the opportunity to take notes on the production, marketing and supply of diamonds to cutters namibians", adds the note from the ministry.

According to Diamantino Azevedo, improving the country's mining register is a challenge, and they are therefore "comparing the mining registers of other countries" in order to improve that of Angola.

Among the purposes of the visit is "to also look at the issue of diamonds, in terms of cutting and polishing, to see Namibia's experience in terms of the tax regime and all related matters, so that we can improve our strategy in terms of cutting and diamond polishing, essentially, in the comparative sense of the legislation, so that we can attract more investors", added the official, quoted in the communiqué of the guardianship.

It should also be noted that this Wednesday, the minister participated in a technical meeting where executives from companies and institutes from both countries exchanged experiences on various fields of the mining industry and hydrocarbons.
