Government starts this Wednesday meetings with Namibia on oil

The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas starts this Wednesday a visit to Namibia to exchange experiences with the local authorities on the exploitation of natural resources and on the fight against fuel trafficking.

"A technical meeting, for the exchange of experiences, between the Angolan Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas and the Namibian Ministry of Mines and Energy, fills the agenda, counting twelve points, whose emphasis lies on the mining register; legislation and fiscal regime for the diamond cutting industry; research and exploration of offshore diamonds; research and exploration of uranium and legislation and fiscal regime for research and exploration of uranium", reads a statement from the Government.

Diamantino Azevedo will stay in the Namibian capital for two days, during which he will head the Angolan delegation, which also includes officials from the National Petroleum Institute (INP).

"The INP will present its set of courses focused on mining and hydrocarbons, followed by the exchange of experiences between the two countries in the field of exploration and production of hydrocarbons in reserved areas (such as the Okavango), as well as opportunities for investments in the mining and hydrocarbon industries", the statement also points out.

In addition, the two countries will also discuss measures to combat cross-border trafficking: "Combating fuel trafficking across the common border will be another topic under analysis, which will be followed by topics such as the Lobito Refinery and copper processing", added to the text.

The program also includes visits to the Mining Registry of Namibia and Diamond Cutting Factories and a thematic meeting and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Angola and Namibia in the field of Mineral Resources and Hydrocarbons.

According to Luanda, minister Diamantino Azevedo is accompanied by the national director of Mineral Resources, the general directors of the National Petroleum Institute and the Regulatory Institute of Petroleum Derivatives, the presidents of the boards of directors of the National Agency of Mineral Resources, the Geological Institute of Angola, Endiama and the Society for the Commercialization of Diamonds of Angola (Sodiam), as well as two administrators from the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) and the oil company Sonangol.
