Mário Caetano João: “We want more Angolans to work for the World Bank”

The Government wants “more Angolans to work for the World Bank”. The intention was expressed by Mário Caetano João, Minister of Economy and Planning, in the context of an audience with the Vice President of the World Bank for Human Resources, Diarietou Gaye, which took place on the sidelines of the spring meetings of the Bretton Woods institutions, in Washington, United States of America.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Economy and Planning, which VerAngola had access to, at the top of the agenda was recognition of the best way to increase the recruitment of Angolans in the various departments of the financial institution.

On the occasion, the holder of the Economy and Planning portfolio referred that the country "has human capital as the first of the three pillars that support the National Development Plan (PDN) 2023/2027, where in addition to improving the quality of education and learning, includes strengthening the technical capacity of public sector staff, through internships", reads the statement.

Thus, the minister said that together they can "set up a program that" allows Angolans to carry out internships. "Together we can set up a program that allows Angolans to do internships or to better respond to the bank's entrance exams so that they can take advantage of the recruitment opportunities that regularly occur. We want more Angolans to work for the World Bank", said the official, mentioned in the statement.

Diarietou Gaye, adds the note, "considers Angola's initiative commendable", having assured "that in the next few days he will present proposals with the different existing forms of hiring a technician for specific programs of the bank, the recruitment windows for young people in Africa , whether from universities, private companies, or from the public sector".

The ministry, in the statement, also recalls that the ministries of Economy and Planning, Finance and the National Bank of Angola are "developing the Project for the Internationalization of Angolan Staff in Economic Matters".
