This is the first official visit of João Gomes Cravinho, now in the role of head of Portuguese diplomacy, after having passed through the National Defence, and aims to strengthen the approach to a country with which Portugal has historical relations of proximity.
João Gomes Cravinho will meet on Tuesday morning with his counterpart, Téte António and with the President, João Lourenço, and meetings with the business community are expected on Wednesday to get to know the work developed in the various sectors.
"At a time when Angola is betting on the relaunch of its economy, after two years conditioned by the covid-19 pandemic, this move by the Portuguese MNE constitutes an opportunity for the creation of new projects and for the strengthening of existing initiatives involving Portugal and Angola", emphasizes the MNE, in a statement.
The minister will also "signal the importance" of Angola's "strong participation" in the Second United Nations Ocean Conference, one of the biggest international events of the year, which takes place in June in Lisbon.
João Gomes Cravinho's first official trip abroad takes place two weeks after taking office, in one of the member countries of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), "concreting the importance of deepening mutual friendship and cooperation" between the countries that make up this organization, whose rotating presidency is currently held by Angola.
