Portuguese MNE visits Angola this month to strengthen cooperation

The Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho, will visit Angola from the 12th to the 13th of this month, to strengthen cooperation, Portuguese ambassador Francisco Alegre said this Wednesday in Luanda.

The Portuguese diplomat made the announcement at the end of an audience with the President, João Lourenço, who also received the chairman of the executive committee of the Portuguese banking institution Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Paulo Macedo.

"It is the first bilateral visit he has made in this position and at the moment, as ambassador of Portugal, my focus is to work towards that visit, give it content and follow up on this priority in strengthening our bilateral relationship", he said.

Francisco Alegre said that when he presented his credentials, the President, João Lourenço, challenged him to make Portugal play an important role in the process of diversifying Angola's economy.

Francisco Alegre said that he has visited several Portuguese companies, not only in the construction and distribution sector, but also those focused on the industry.

"Companies that create many quality jobs in Angola and for this strengthening of the Portuguese economic presence in Angola and for us to be able to attract investments from Portuguese reference companies here, it is also essential to have financial muscle (...), this presence of the largest Portuguese bank in Angola is of strategic importance", he stressed, referring to Caixa Geral de Depósitos.
