João Lourenço received this Wednesday the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security to discuss the preparations for the extraordinary summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Change of Regimes in Africa.

Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, Bankole Adeoye said he congratulated the head of state's leadership in efforts to bring stability, cohesion and national progress to Angola.

"We addressed the issue that has to do with the preparations for the extraordinary summit of heads of state and government of the African Union, which aims to address the issues and challenges inherent in the fight against terrorism and unconstitutional change of power", he said.

Bankole Adeye highlighted Angola's experience in promoting national reconciliation, peace and social cohesion, which, he said, will be a "success factor" for the summit scheduled for Malabo, on 28 May this year.

During the meeting, the willingness of the African Union to participate as an observer in the next general elections, which will be held in August this year, was also expressed.

"In this context, we are very happy to have received guarantees from the Republic of Angola from President João Lourenço, in the sense of continuing to work with the African Union to promote peace and stability and good governance, on the African continent, to the benefit of African peoples and humanity in general," he said.

The summit aims to bring together African leaders, in order to share experiences in terms of conflict resolution, as is the case of Angola at the level of the Great Lakes Region and at the level of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in the specific case of Mozambique.

"We hope it will be a learning platform where African leaders can learn from each other, but also decide on concrete steps towards the implementation of the Lomé Declaration, which prohibits unconstitutional change and regimes", he stressed.
