Abel Chivukuvuku, promoter of the political project PRA-JÁ Servir Angola, spoke to Lusa about the 20 years of peace that the country celebrates this Monday, following the silence of arms, after the death in combat of the founding leader of the União Nacional para a Independência Total de Angola (UNITA), Jonas Savimbi, on 22 February 2002.

"Fortunately, the end of the armed conflict is one of the great achievements of the Angolan people, however, we all need to cherish this end of the armed conflict, which we call peace, we all need to build daily life", said Abel Chivukuvuku, who was president at the founding of the Convergência Ampla de Salvação de Angola – Coligação Eleitoral (CASA-CE), in 2012, becoming the second largest force in the opposition.

According to Abel Chivukuvuku, after the end of the war, which for decades opposed the Government and UNITA, a party of which he was a member for more than 30 years and held leadership positions, it is necessary to "conquer holistic peace".

"Holistic peace means that peace has to represent the absence of extreme risk factors in people's lives, because those who go hungry do not have peace, those who are very sick and cannot be treated have no peace," he said.

The politician who, in 1992, was wounded during the armed conflict in Luanda, between government forces and UNITA, also defended that achieving holistic peace is important so that, in fact, there is not only "the silence of arms, but improve the quality of life of citizens on a daily basis".

The Government of the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA) and UNITA signed on March 4, 2002 a peace agreement that ended 27 years of war.
