According to a press release from the President of the Republic's secretariat for institutional and press communication, on the first day, João Lourenço will inaugurate, in Cafu, the Water Transfer System of the Cunene River, a project designed to solve the cyclical problem of drought in the region.
The southern region of the country has been affected for several years by a severe drought, with Cunene being one of the most affected provinces, registering in addition to the population exodus, livestock deaths and food insecurity of the population, causing high rates of malnutrition, especially in children.
The visit program foresees for the second day the launch of the pre-election campaign of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the party that leads and supports the Government.
Angola will hold its fifth general election in the second half of August this year.
João Lourenço's return to Luanda is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
