Country has only 6200 housing loans in a universe of 30 million inhabitants

Angola has only 6200 housing loans in a universe of 30 million inhabitants, the governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA) said this Thursday, adding that a solution to facilitate this financing will be in place over the next five years.

José de Lima Massano was speaking after the meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee, presenting more details on the housing credits presented on Wednesday, which will allow Angolans to access credits of up to 100 million kwanzas, within a period of 25 years.

"We have about 6200 housing credit processes in force in the financial system, in a population of 30 million, that is, it is practically non-existent", he observed.

Of these cases, half correspond to loans granted to bank employees and the other half to employees of companies that have entered into agreements with commercial banks.

"It is a concern", expressed the head of the BNA, adding that the expectation is that "this action will help families to solve a problem, the economy to continue to grow but also contribute to price stability in the country and increase the good -being social".

The governor of the BNA informed on Wednesday during the meeting of the Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers that commercial banks will grant credits of up to 100 million kwanzas, a request that can start within 60 days.

The proposal, which establishes the new type of credit, provides for a return rate of 7 percent over a period of 25 years, with 858 billion kwanzas having been mobilized for this purpose.

"We believe that there would be space, after a solution was found for the business sector, also for the individual segment and in this one, one of society's main concerns is housing credit solutions", he stressed.

The amount that is channeled to housing credit will be deducted from the mandatory reserves.

José de Lima Massano stated that "there are no distinctions between who has access and who does not", and the banks are responsible for analyzing the profile of each customer.

"What we did was to establish a ceiling, up to one hundred million kwanzas" and complementary guarantees to the salary were accepted as assets or personal guarantees. Individually, citizens may apply for a loan of up to 50 million kwanzas.

This solution will be available in the next five years, indicated the governor of the BNA.

Property developers can also resort to credit, with the interest rate for real estate construction being 10 percent and the repayment period of 36 months.

The new version of Notice 10, which aims to grant credit to the real sector of the economy, also has a treasury facility in order to facilitate the acquisition of raw materials and inputs from local suppliers.
