Housing credit can be granted up to 100 million kwanzas

Angolan citizens will soon have easy access to housing loans of up to 100 million kwanzas, for a maximum maturity period of 25 years.

The information was provided by the governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), José de Lima Massano, at the end of the third meeting of the Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers, held this Thursday at the Presidential Palace, under the guidance of the President of the Republic.

The governor of the BNA said that, through Notice number 10, it was possible to mobilize around 858 billion kwanzas, just over US$1.7 billion, to give citizens the possibility of accessing their own housing, with to bank credit.

"We are allowing, by deducting mandatory reserves, commercial banks to be able, using this modality, to grant housing credit, individually, up to a limit of 100 million kwanzas", he informed.

The granting of housing credit, according to the governor of the BNA, imposes the condition that a complementary guarantee must be presented, which can be a personal guarantee or a guarantee, as well as the possibility of two people competing, for example, a couple , and receive the stipulated limit. If it is an individual title, it is paid for half the value, corresponding to 50 million kwanzas.

"With this initiative, banks will be able to lend, for the purchase of their own home, for a maximum maturity of 25 years, with a maximum interest rate of seven percent", he explained.

To facilitate the construction of new properties, José de Lima Massano informed that they are also allowing entities promoting construction projects for housing purposes to use this credit facility, considering an interest rate of 10 percent.

"This Notice of ours allows commercial banks a period of up to 60 days to organize themselves, to structure themselves and then be able to offer housing credit and construction credit in the modalities presented", he added.

At the same meeting, the Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers also proceeded with the restructuring of the Angolan Venture Capital Active Fund (FACRA), providing it with a management model more in line with the current context of the national economy.

In this way, FACRA will "better contribute to accelerating the process of diversification of the national economy, increasing competitiveness and sustainable growth of companies, aiming at reinforcing the incentive to entrepreneurship and the dissemination of good management practices".
