Lunhinga Project estimates to double diamond production this year

Lunhinga expects, starting in the second half of this year, to double its diamond production, said Adérito Gaspar, coordinator of the installation commission of the project, which is located in the commune of Xá-cassau, in the municipality of Lucapa, in Lunda Norte province.

In the second half of this year, a new plant is expected to start operating, which, according to Adérito Gaspar, will allow the project to double its production levels.

Thus, according to the official, expectations point to a doubling of numbers: diamond production is expected to increase from the current 10,000 to 20,000 carats of diamonds per month.

Cited by Angop, Adérito Gaspar indicated that, besides the increase in production, this new plant will also generate new jobs. With the objective of reinforcing the project's human resources (which currently employs 372 people, 19 of which are expatriates), this new plant will make it possible to hire more than 30 new young people.

Adérito Gaspar indicated that the financing of the project will be reinforced, aiming at the improvement of the equipment. However, the responsible person did not reveal which will be the concrete value of the investment.

Ana Paula Neto visited this Tuesday the mine to get information about the percentage of young people that are employed in the project, which has a concession area of 325 square kilometers, which should be explored in a period of five years.

Annually, the project treats, on average, about 1.4 million tons of ore, having a yield of 120 carats of diamonds per year.
