João Lourenço made the announcement during the lunch he had with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and his delegation, after the audience of about an hour he granted the European official.

The head of state said that the country has made major investments in physical infrastructure and its equipment as part of measures to combat the pandemic of covid-19, which also includes efforts to acquire vaccines to fight the disease.

According to João Lourenço, the national vaccination plan was initiated with the use of about 630 thousand doses donated by the Covax initiative, which has committed to support this donation until it reaches 13.224.240 doses of vaccines of several brands.

"We also hope to benefit from 50 million dollars from the European Investment Bank for the acquisition of vaccines", informed João Lourenço, pointing out that the country has acquired with its own resources 6.000.000 vaccines from Russia, Sputnik V, which expects to receive, the first half, already in May.

Angola has so far registered 26,178 positive cases, 70 percent of them in Luanda, which resulted in 591 deaths.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 3,168,333 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 150.4 million cases of infection, according to an assessment made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
