According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of infected people in the 55 member states of the organization is now 4,550,156, and in the last 24 hours there have been 15,524 recovered, totaling 4,093. 170 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,966,426 infected and 62,040 dead associated with contagion with the disease. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, records 1,579,536 cases and 54,331 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area, with 1,362,616 infected and 39,700 fatalities.
East Africa accounts for 602,173 infections and 11,205 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 458,180 and that of deaths is 6048. In Central Africa, there are 160,761 cases of infection and 2563 registered deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 13,278 deaths and 226,521 infected, followed by Tunisia, with 10,641 deaths and 307,215 cases of infection. Morocco accounts for 510,886 cases of infection and 9020 deaths associated with covid-19.
Among the countries most affected are Ethiopia, with 3658 fatalities and 256,418 infections, and Algeria, with 3244 dead and 121,866 infected.
In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 814 deaths and 69,864 cases, followed by Angola (594 deaths and 26,431 cases of infection), Cape Verde (213 deaths and 23,554 cases), Equatorial Guinea (112 deaths and 7694 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (67 dead and 3733 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (35 killed and 2292 cases).
