Organization of Ibero-American States awards scholarships to CPLP university students

The Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI) will award five travel grants to university students from member states of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries who wish to study at Portuguese and Brazilian universities.

:

These scholarships are included in the scope of the Mobility Programme of AUL - Association of Portuguese Speaking Universities, entity with which the OIE has established a partnership, announced this Wednesday this organization in a statement.

The scholarships are intended for students from CPLP countries who want to complete their degrees or master's degrees in universities in Portugal or Brazil.

"The partnership between the two institutions comes from the joint recognition of the importance of academic mobility for the circulation and production of knowledge at a global level, for the improvement of learning and skills of students, for the promotion of science, as well as the strengthening of relations between the academic institutions of these two geographical areas that share, namely, the Portuguese language," the OIE said in the note.

In this way, the two entities hope to "contribute to preparing students for an increasingly competitive labour market".

Ana Paula Laborinho, director of the OEI office in Portugal, cited in the statement, stresses that "academic mobility is an important tool for building knowledge networks".

"The cooperation between AULP and OEI for the award of advanced training scholarships is an important step towards strengthening these networks and the cooperation between the CPLP space and the Ibero-American space in the fields of higher education and science", she stresses.

The OEI explains that, as gender equality and the promotion of science are "fundamental pillars of the organisation's work", in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals set out in the 2030 International Agenda, "one of the criteria for awarding the scholarships is to enhance the advanced training of women in science".

Interested students can obtain more information on the AULP website.

The Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI) is the first multilateral inter-governmental cooperation body founded in 1949 with the aim of promoting Ibero-American cooperation in these three areas of action.

Currently, the OEI has 23 member states and offices in 18 countries, in addition to the General Secretariat, which is in Spain.

The CPLP's member states are Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea and São Tomé and Príncipe.
