According to the Congolese news portal Actualité, which quotes the local representative of the National Border Hygiene Program, Christian Mabedi, 210 people arrived in Kamako on Monday, while another 50 crossed the border post this Wednesday.

"They arrived exhausted and with nothing. They told us that they had been mistreated by the Angolan security forces. The serious thing is that some of the women arrived almost naked," said Mabedi, adding that the temperature was measured for all those who crossed the border and none showed signs of covid-19.

Last week, the provincial government of Kasai regretted, during the Council of Ministers, the expulsion of Congolese from Angola and the incursion of the Angolan armed forces into Congolese territory.

By March, around 20 000 refugees had been placed at the border by the Angolan authorities, with the agreement of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The refugees have constantly complained of abuses by the Angolan authorities, who have denied the accusation, and claim that they are forced to walk for days, sleeping by the side of the road and carrying all their belongings.

For Luanda, Congolese who have not registered with the immigration service are considered illegal immigrants because the civil war in the neighbouring country is over and they have lost their refugee status.
