The initiative will give priority to the elderly, the physically handicapped and to centres and homes for the elderly, the provincial responsible said, adding that the basic food basket is made up of 10 basic necessities.
Sérgio Luther Rescova, who spoke at a press conference on Tuesday, quoted by Angop, also reported that about 61,000 families have been identified: "We have a group of vulnerable people already registered by municipal administrations that even before [the appearance of covid-19] were beneficiaries of the state".
He thanked the churches and associations for their efforts to facilitate the arrival of the basic food basket to the most vulnerable sites and explained that the delivery of the products will be done by a working group.
The governor also revealed that during the next few days the Beiral workers and 190 elderly people will be evacuated to a place with better conditions, adding that during that time the Beiral will be the target of renovation work.
The project, which is part of the National Program to Strengthen the Basic Social Protection System, aims to reduce the risks arising from the presence of the new coronavirus in the country.
