Campaign in local languages aims to sensitize the rural population to the coronavirus

The Government started this week an awareness campaign on the new coronavirus aimed at rural families, especially in remote areas of the country, which will be disseminated in Portuguese and several national languages.

Andrew Esiebo:

According to a statement from the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) that, together with the WHO (World Health Organization), support this initiative, the campaign, carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, will be broadcast in several languages including Kimbundu, Umbundu, Kikongo and Chokwe.

The campaign aims to sensitize farmers to protect themselves against covid-19, informing them about the symptoms of the disease, through the technicians of the agricultural extension services of the Agrarian Development Institute (IDA).

The FAO representative in Angola, Gherda Barreto, cited in the statement, highlighted the importance of ensuring the health and nutrition of the most vulnerable populations in this context and keeping family farming and food supply chains active.

"It is important that the agricultural livelihoods of the population habitually affected by food insecurity do not deteriorate. Therefore, FAO recommends strengthening the social protection networks of communities and not interrupting the local food trade, to guarantee food security. , nutrition and livelihoods of the rural population ", added the same official.

Angola has so far identified 19 positive cases of covid-19, of which two resulted in death and four are now recovered.
